DGNB Hotel Sant Cugat-1

DGNB Certification for the Holiday Inn Barcelona-Sant Cugat Hotel

The Project

In Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona), we helped the Holiday Inn Barcelona-Sant Cugat—a 4-star hotel with 208 rooms and a total floor area of 9,660 m²—obtain its sustainability certification. The complex features 6 conference rooms, event spaces, a restaurant, a bar, a rooftop, a gym, and a parking lot equipped with electric vehicle chargers, as well as an extensive green area that serves as an oasis for guests and visitors.

Our team provided support for the building’s sustainable certification, the life cycle assessment (LCA), and the commissioning of facilities, with the goal of ensuring both the hotel’s environmental efficiency and a high-quality experience for its guests. The project has earned DGNB Gold certification.

Notable Sustainable Strategies

  • Reuse of graywater and stormwater, reducing the hotel’s consumption of municipal water.
  • Selection of environmentally friendly and certified materials, prioritizing products with the lowest environmental impact.
  • High standards of thermal and acoustic comfort, ensuring the well-being of guests and staff throughout the hotel.
  • Common areas with views of the surrounding greenery, integrating the interior design with the site’s natural environment.
  • Commissioning with a thorough review of all systems, ensuring proper operation from day one.
  • An environmental construction plan, with specific measures to reduce noise, dust, soil disturbance, and waste generation during construction.

Results

DGNB Gold Certification

This recognition ranks the Holiday Inn Barcelona-Sant Cugat among the hotels with the best environmental performance in its category.

Environmental Management of the Construction Project

The implementation of a specific environmental plan has made it possible to control and reduce the impact of noise, dust, soil disturbance, and waste throughout the entire construction process.

100% Certified Sustainable Materials

Full compliance with the DGNB’s most stringent requirements for the selection of healthy materials, minimizing emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other potentially harmful substances.

More than 1,120 m³ of drinking water saved each year

Thanks to a combination of graywater reuse and stormwater harvesting.
