Double BREEAM and VERDE certification for Lidl's logistics platform

The Project

Certification of Lidl's logistics platform in Alcalá de Henares, recognised as the company's largest, highest and most sustainable in Europe. The main objective was to achieve the highest sustainability standards by obtaining the BREEAM "Excellent" and VERDE (4 leaves) seals. The strategy focused on the following aspects:

Maximisation of energy efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions.
Advanced waste management during construction and operation.
Intensive saving of water resources through control and reuse technologies.
Ensuring comfort and health for operators, with special attention to air quality in a large-scale industrial environment.

Outstanding sustainable strategies

Energy efficiency in the design and optimisation of industrial refrigeration systems.
Use of renewable energies: integration of a high-capacity photovoltaic installation on the roof for self-consumption of the platform.
Intelligent monitoring: Continuous monitoring of energy consumption to ensure optimal environmental performance during operation.
Materials and waste: Selection of materials with low environmental impact and management of site waste that exceeded the usual recycling standards.

Double Certification of Excellence

The project managed to achieve outstanding levels in both seals, positioning itself as a benchmark in the Spanish logistics sector for its commitment to integral sustainability.

Emission and consumption reduction

Thanks to the passive design measures, the platform is capable of self-supplying 30% of the building's demand for one year.

Saving water resources

Considerable savings in potable water consumption are achieved through the implementation of flow control technologies and reuse systems.

Improving air quality

The use of environmentally certified paints, varnishes and wood panels has enabled the optimisation of air quality, ensuring optimal health and comfort conditions for end users.
