Life Cycle Assessment

Life Cycle Assessment is a methodology to evaluate the environmental impacts associated with all the steps of a building' life. By its interpretation it is possible to identify corrective measures to improve the sustainability of the building and enhance a reduction of its environmental footprint.

Highlights alternatives to reduce the environmental impacts of your building

The analysis of the environmental impacts associated with the building materials permit us to:

  • Quantify the embodied and operational carbon emissions of the building from a life cycle approach
  • Compare them against the current benchmarks and evaluate their performance considering the purpose of the architecture
  • Propose alternatives and design strategies to reduce the whole environmental impact and achieve the best energy behaviour of your building

Connecting BIM technology with the materials’ environmental data allow us to analyse the performance of these within the building, quantify their impacts and compare them against benchmarks in real time. Once all categories are assigned with modeling software we can assess the best alternatives to improve the whole building carbon strategy.

By understanding the materials' environmental impact and therefore, the instrinsic energy embodied of the building, it is possible to make effective choices to achieve a sustainable building.

The sooner, the better

The aim of the life cycle assessment is to display the environmental impacts associated within the building with the aim to quantify and reduce them. Therefore, the most effective time to conduct this kind of analysis is at the beginning of the project.

By doing so we are capable to assess the best solutions and suggest corrective measures to improve the sustainability of the project along the decision making process.

According to the Carbon Leadership Forum the environmental analysis should be considered in each step of the construction process and should propose a roadmap to reduce the building life cycle impacts.
